How to Set Incantations in Super Shout Showdown

Custom incantations are the soul of Super Shout Showdown. Official copy invites you to go full anime or full nonsense — “God’s Retribution” and “Spicy Super Meatball” are both valid if the recogniser (or your keyboard) can land them.

Open the Grimoire the smart way

Demo quality-of-life updates let you open the Grimoire from the lobby. Unlock spells, edit chants, and set display names without returning to the title screen. Keep a notes app nearby so you do not forget which phrase maps to Lightning Dash at 2 a.m.

Rules of a good chant

  1. Short enough to land — every extra syllable is a whiff chance… unless you are deliberately casting a long empowered line.
  2. Length as power — developer posts describe longer incantations empowering spells when they complete. Use short phrases for mobility/Heal and save long lines for protected finishers.
  3. Distinct — no two spells in your kit should rhyme into each other.
  4. Speakable — avoid tongue twisters when sprinting.
  5. Typeable — the same string should be friendly in Typing Mode.
  6. Language-aligned — recognition language must match the words you actually say.

Japanese players should know prolonged sound marks no longer eat character budget like ordinary symbols after a demo fix. Everyone should retest after language toggles; a patch fixed English↔other language switching bugs. Prefer Fast / Balanced / High Accuracy ASR models that match your phrase length — see Mic Fix.

Privacy and social comfort

Community threads ask how to avoid letting opponents hear cursed chants. Use spell PTT instead of open mic, lower chat broadcast, or play Typing Mode. Shout-only rooms exist for people who want the opposite energy — pick lobbies that match your vibe.

Display names vs cast phrases

You can set a custom spell name shown to everyone while still practising private clarity. Do not confuse theatrical display text with the exact string ASR expects if those systems differ on your build — verify in the training lobby. Full UI walkthrough: Grimoire Guide.

Testing protocol

  1. Draft five candidates in the Incantation Planner.
  2. Cast each ten times standing still.
  3. Cast each ten times while strafing.
  4. Promote winners into your Build.
  5. Retire phrases that fail more than 20% of attempts.
  6. After a hit, practise recovery screams if your session supports shout-based HP regain.

Mode nuances

Shouting rewards phonetic clarity (Shouting Mode). Typing rewards compact spelling (Typing & Tapping). Tapping cares less about words and more about timing — still keep names memorable so the QTE prompt makes sense to you.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Can incantations be any language?

Use a language supported by the recognition list and set the recognition language to match.

Are longer chants better?

They can empower spells when completed successfully, but failed long lines punish harder — mix lengths by role.

Are funny chants worse?

Only if they are long or ambiguous. Nonsense can be optimal when it is crisp.

How many spells should I customise at once?

Three starters first. Expand after they feel automatic.

Where do I practice safely?

Private lobbies or casual Duels before Team Battle and FFA.
